WHAT IS
MOVING_ME?

Moving_Me? Is a photographic project asking people living on council estates, which are undergoing a council renewal programme, to provide a single square frame photograph using a mobile phone that represents what the word ‘moving’ means to them, for example a bike, wheelchair, skateboard, a pile of cardboard boxes, a favourite view, or a bus.  Do not feel restricted, it’s your photo!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Using the camera on your mobile phone using the square setting, take one photo that represents ‘moving’ to you and upload to your Instagram with the hashtag #Moving_Me? We will then add it to this website. Alternatively email your photo as a high resolution JPG. attachment to: adam.elliott-cooper@kcl.ac.uk

WHO CAN SEND A PHOTO?

Anyone who is living on, or was recently a resident on a London council estate undergoing a renewal programme.

Also anyone who has a relative or friend living on an affected council estate. We encourage young family members to engage older people, particularly grandparents, to submit a photo.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

Using the FREE mobile phone app Instagram, take a single square photo using your mobile phone and upload to your Instagram account adding the #Moving_Me? hashtag.

CAN I SUBMIT MORE THAN ONE PHOTO?

Yes and No. Yes, if you are helping a relative or friend upload their photograph, no if it is another photo by you. It’s tough choosing a single photo, even the greatest photographers struggle - so you are not alone!

DO I NEED TO WRITE SOMETHING?

It’s up to you. Of course, we would love to read your story and know why this photo is important to you, but not everyone is comfortable writing so no words are fine, as the saying goes… ‘one picture is worth a 1000 words’.

CAN I USE HASHTAGS?

If you are using Instagram please include this hashtag: #Moving_Me? plus the hashtag of your location (for example #Stepney) and add #London and #Photograph plus any other hashtags you wish.

DO I HAVE TO USE INSTAGRAM?

No, although we would prefer you to submit via Instagram. Alternatively, please email your JPEG. photograph with any accompanying story to adam.elliott-cooper@kcl.ac.uk

CAN I EMAIL A PHOTO?

Yes, please send as a high-resolution JPEG. attachment with any accompanying story, and please include the location and any other details you wish to share to adam.elliott-cooper@kcl.ac.uk. You do not need to provide any personal information.

WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT?

You do. You can request the photograph be removed at anytime. If you do not want your photograph stored in the Museum of London archive please let us know when you submit your photo. There is no commercial aspect to this project.

DO I GET PAID?

Unfortunately we are unable pay for photographs.

Is there an exhibition?

We plan to have an exhibition of all the photographs submitted to Moving_Me? during autumn 2019 at a central London location. The higher the resolution you use when you take your photo the better it will look when printed.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE PROJECT FINISHES?

The photographs and any accompanying stories will be archived at the Museum of London, along with the research interviews, documents collected and published papers, saved for future generations.
